Meet The Staff
Dr. Doug Resler – Senior Pastor
It’s been almost twenty years since Jesus first ambushed me on the campus of the University of Colorado in a small group men’s Bible study on Romans. Since then, my life has been a testimony to God’s amazing grace. It includes meeting my future wife and partner in ministry, Kristi, interning at First Presbyterian Church in Boulder, evangelizing the campus of the University of Colorado, somehow graduating from CU (after failing out my sophomore year!), working as a manager at Boulder Community Hospital (with no health care background!), attending Princeton Theological Seminary (with a 2.3 GPA from college!), serving at New Jersey State Prison as a volunteer chaplain, graduating and winning the Mary Long Grier-Hugh Davies prize in preaching (which has to be the longest named prize in history!), serving for six years alongside the wonderful people of Overlook Presbyterian Church in Mobile, AL (who put up with this Yankee!), having front row seats to the spiritual renewal God brought to that congregation, moving to Sun Prairie, WI to plant a new church (which failed by the way!) and learning some painful but good lessons along the way, and then being called back home to Colorado to serve as senior pastor of PEPC. Whew! What a whirlwind journey! Along the way, God blessed us with four beautiful children – Chloe, Josiah, and our twins Emma and Sophie – of whom we couldn’t be more proud!
Our deepest passion is to join God in what He’s doing to redeem and reclaim the world for Himself and our deepest joy is to be a part of an awesome community of people here at PEPC who share that passion!
My favorite passage of Scripture is “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” Romans 8:11
My most embarrassing moment came when I played Peter Pan on Ice when I was younger…and yes, my mom made me wear the green tights!
Gary McCusker – Family Life Pastor
As a family we first came to PEPC in 1993, shortly after serving as missionaries with Youth for Christ in Germany working with Military Community Youth Ministries for nine years. In 1994, I came on as the interim youth director while working at YFC/USA and I have never left the staff at PEPC. In 1999, I went from part time to full time as the Student Ministries Pastor and left YFC after 22 years. My wife, Debi has continued with YFC/USA and is now on the Senior leadership Team as the Shared Services Director. In 2005, I stepped into the role as the Family Life Pastor and have fulfilled a myriad of roles as the primary counseling pastor, utilizing my master’s in Biblical Counseling from CCU in 1993, then as the interim senior pastor for most of 2009 and am currently finishing up my requirements to become ordained in the EPC in the near future. Debi and I have been married for 35 years and have three adult children, Casey, Cori and Colin. I’m involved in the community as a high school baseball coach at Ponderosa and play rec softball a few nights a week most of the year with my wife for our championship PEPC softball team.
I enjoy working in my salsa garden, hanging out with my family, wrestling with our dogs Cash and Cutler and playing golf. One of my favorite verses that God has been faithful in it’s promise is Proverbs 3:5,6 “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding and he will make your path straight”. I am a passionate follower of Jesus Christ and live to make him known to others in all that I am and do. Some of my favorite theologians are Oswald Chambers and CS Lewis. I love being a part of the PEPC family and watching God work in and through us to fulfill His Great Commission in Parker, Colorado and the World.
Matt DePriest – Worship Arts Pastor
I was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin, studied at Columbia International University, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and am now at Denver Seminary.
I spent the last seven years on staff at Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, WI.
I am the husband to an amazingly gifted and godly woman (Sarah), and the delighted father of a fantastic two-year old son (Corban).
I Love to think deeply and to speak intentionally.
I am insatiably curious and desire to be continually learning; I recognize that I’m in process as are those individuals and systems around me.
I tend to be observant, analytical, even critical—especially of the theology that we teach, and the formation that takes place through our art.
My natural bent is to refine and improve, but hopefully never divorced from the need to value, respect, and honor those individuals and traditions to which we are indebted.
Most importantly, I am passionately in love with Jesus and am deeply committed to seeing his kingdom come in my life, and in the lives of his people—the church—as his chosen method for reaching the world.
Vicki Mowery – Executive Assistant
I grew up in a Christian home and am the second of 5 children. My parents were missionaries in South Africa where I attended High School. After High School I came back to the States with my older sister and felt the Lord calling me to Bible College in Des Moines, IA, where I received a BA in Christian Education. I met my husband, Jim while we were working together at Jeppesen in Englewood. We are blessed with two children, Cory and Christy who came to us through adoption. What an amazing blessing adoption is and therefore one of my great loves and passions.
I came to know the Lord as a young child but was not really passionate about Him until He became real to me through the infertility/adoption process. I realized at that time that I am not really in control of anything, He is. I need to rely on Him totally as my source of strength and the direction for my life. What a difference this has made in my thinking.
My passion in ministry is administrative/support. Anything that I can do to make another’s ministry successful, really trips my trigger. I love being behind the scenes and able to see God glorified and people drawn to him.
My favorite Bible verse is Psalm 30:5 – “Weeping may endure for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning!” Nothing is ever as bad as it seems at midnight. God is there and beside me in the darkest times.
Dan Lynch – Student Ministry Pastor
My roots are here in Colorado. I grew up in the Arvada area and was blessed with being a part of a family who taught me the value of a relationship with Christ. I was heavily active in my youth ministry growing up going to youth groups, camps, retreats, lock-ins, missions trips and I was even in the youth choir. (In spite of not being able to carry a tune) I loved being a part of that community. My plan growing up was to finish High School, go to college and when I turned 21 go through the police academy and join the police force. I thought that was a great plan and a good future. And it was, only it was my plan and not God’s plan. A series of event over the next couple years lead me down a different path where God revealed his ultimate plan for my life, to minister to Students. I have had the incredible opportunity over the last 10 years to show Christ’s love to students. I see youth ministry as an outreach and I have a huge passion to reach into the community to share the Gospel with as many students who will listen. Nothing excites me more then to see these students develop a heart to serve and glorify our Lord, and to see them be impacted by the transformation that Jesus Christ has on their lives.
My wife Savanah and I have spent the last 5 years out in Merced CA where I had the privilege to serve at Central Presbyterian Church. Now we are blessed by being back home here in Colorado to minister to the students in Parker. We have a beautiful daughter named Shiloh and a son named Caleb who bring us great joy. I like being outdoors. I enjoy hiking, camping and sitting around campfires. I like people, and community and the fellowship we share.
I love the charge we are given in Hebrews 12:28-29 “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.” How awesome our God is, and what an exciting journey that we get to take part in HIS kingdom!
Will Freyschlag – Assistant Student Ministries Director
I was born and raised in Colorado, and I grew up attending PEPC with my parents and two sisters. I had a blast in high school and middle school youth group with Gary McCusker and our small group leaders. Gary’s leadership and model of loving and serving students played a huge part in my passion for volunteering with youth. While attending Colorado State University I volunteered with YoungLife and was involved with the Navigators. I graduated in Landscape Architecture and worked for a few years in residential landscape design while continuing to serve on a YoungLife team in South Aurora. I found so much joy in working with students that when the opportunity arose to join Dan as an intern in the fall of 2011, I jumped at it. While interning, I worked part time for a PEPC family at their farm taking care of their horses. It was a great combination—working outside and with horses in the morning and then hanging out with students in the afternoon—and I am very thankful for their support. In the summer of 2012 I was able to come on full time staff and working with Dan and the rest of the leadership team has been such a blessing.
I met my wife Brittany at PEPC youth group in 7th grade and we started dating in HS for a couple years. We broke up when we went to CSU but after a few years, God crossed our paths again and we got married in the fall of 2009. We have a yellow lab named Oakley (who you might’ve met if you’ve been around the church offices) and we love traveling around our beautiful state. I also enjoy playing golf, hunting, skiing, and leather crafting.
One of my favorite verses is 1 Peter 5:6-7: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
Katherine Holman – Elementary Education Director
I am a Colorado native. I grew up in Littleton, graduated from Columbine High School and attended Colorado State University. While attending Metropolitan State College to obtain my Elementary Teaching Certificate I met my husband. We purchased our home in Parker in 1996 and two years later started our family. We have two girls and two boys. We have been blessed abundantly through parenting and find it to be one of the greatest joys in our lives.
I grew up in a church and for as long as I can remember known that I had a magnificent heavenly Father. That knowledge became much more personal in my adult years as I had to learn to rely heavily on God’s character and love for me through various trials. I am grateful for those trials now; as I have come to realize that it drew me closer to Jesus.
I am passionate about children and have been since God called me to teach after college. I started in the inner city and moved to the suburbs. After our second daughter was born I stayed at home to tutor and began volunteering in Children’s Ministry at PEPC. What began as a volunteer position, little by little grew to be a true calling. God has placed a fire in my heart to help children fall desperately in love with Jesus and grow to know Him as their friend and savior. I believe that we have a very small window of time as parents to help our children understand who God is in their life, we are commanded to do that and I am passionate about helping parents come alongside their child to be their child’s Spiritual Leader.
I have so many verses in the bible that bring comfort to me it is hard to call one my favorite, however I particularly love the transformational message in Ezekiel 11:19: “And I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them. I will take away their stony, stubborn heart and give them a tender, responsive heart, so they will obey my decrees and regulations. Then they will truly be my people, and I will be their God.”
Kim Wilkens – Early Learning Center Director
I am the Early Learning Center Director here at PEPC. This is a long title that means I oversee programs that involve children under 5 years of age. This includes Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, Mom’s Day Out and Preschool programs.
I have been married to Scott for 25 years and we have 3 lovely college age daughters. As a family we enjoy playing and laughing together. I came to know the Lord when I was in elementary school when a friend invited me to church. I loved going to church, the people were so nice, had big smiles on their faces and treated me with such kindness and love. The Sunday school classes were fun and interactive as I remember. Coming from a single parent home we moved a lot and I would get on whatever church bus came through the neighborhood to be able to attend church or youth group. No matter what was going on at home, knowing that Jesus loved me and would take care of me gave me strength and peace to make it through anything that came my way.
My favorite Bible verse Mathew 6:28-34 paraphrased to “Look how beautiful the flowers and grass are and God takes care of them and they are here today and gone tomorrow. Look at how He takes care of the birds. He loves us so much more than that so there is no need to worry. Life has enough trouble of its own, keep your eyes on the Lord and He will take care of you.”
Coming from a household that was unpredictable but filled with love helped to mold me into the woman I am today. God used the good and bad experiences in my life to give me a greater understanding and compassion for others. Because life can be hard it is important for children to know that God is bigger than anything comes their way. It is my goal to have every child in one of the programs know God’s unconditional love and grace, and for parents to understand that God can and will fill the imperfections in each of us as individuals and parents for His good.
Janet Specht – Administrator / Ministry Consultant
“I’ll stand with arms high and heart abandoned. In awe of the One who gave it all…..” (The Stand by Hillsong United)
A little about me: I have a degree in Music, certification in teaching, graduate work in accounting, and CPE in human resources. I’ve worked as a music teacher, accountant, HR and administrative manager and small business manager – not necessarily exclusively – I like to have plenty to do. Some of the greatest ministry opportunities in my life have come though loving people in everyday life at work and in our community. My greatest blessing is my husband Keith. Together we find our family the joy of our life. I hope you get a chance to meet them: Brooke and Chad with Dylan (Colorado); Brandon and Marilyn with James and Alex (Wyoming); and Brittan (Washington D.C.). I am in awe of the unbelievable love and blessings God has poured out in these rich relationships. Actually, I’m just in awe of God!
I have known our Lord and Savior for most of my life, but have grown to realize I will never know Him today like I will tomorrow. The more I know and love, the more I know there is, to know and love. Going deeper is a lifetime journey. I love the Lord and I love PEPC. God has led us through more than 20 years in community together. My first interaction in leadership at PEPC was with worship design in 1991 on the PEPC Music and Worship Committee and has included designing services, writing drama, choosing music, arranging orchestrations, conducting and in recent years as the Worship Coordinator. Every now and then I even get a chance to conduct one of our ensembles. Administratively I have consulted on building campaigns, staff development, facility management and most Human Resource areas. The PEPC community is dear to our family and it is an honor to be part of ministry here.
I look forward to partnering with the PEPC staff in the various ministry experiences where they lead as their HR and ministry consultant. Our goal will be to maximize our opportunities for serving, team building and facilitating additional avenues for ministry for the glory of the Lord. I believe the passion in art speaks loud and boldly to our hearts and music is one of our strongest forms of communication and tribute. I am excited to to include partnering with our Worship Arts Pastor and the Worship Design Team as the vision for the intergenerational community in worship grows. This promises to create opportunities that bring us into deeper spiritual lives, including worship experiences that connect us and our community to God and each other.
Scriptures that resonate with me are all about trust and love: Isaiah 26: 4 “Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord is the Rock eternal”; Romans 8:39, “…nor anything .. in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord”; Ephesians 3: 18, “… how wide and how long and high and deep is the love of Christ”; and I Corinthians 2: 9, “…No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”.
Most embarrassing moment: Well, I just can’t tell you! “Glory in the Highest. Glory in the Highest. Glory in the Highest to you Lord… to you Lord.” (Glory in the Highest by Chris Tomlin)
Leslie John – Bookkeeper
I have come to know PEPC over the last year and half as the contract bookkeeper and have been completely blessed working with the staff at PEPC who love our Lord and demonstrate His love everyday.
My husband, Kelly and I have two sons, Caleb & Isaac, who are the pride and joy of our lives. Caleb is 14 years old and Isaac is 12 years old. Kelly is a Parker native while I hail from the great state of South Dakota. When we are not working at Kelly’s drywall business, Leprechaun Drywall, Inc. or with my business, Basic Books, Inc. we enjoy hockey, camping and dirt biking.
My walk with Jesus started after I had graduated from high school and began college. I always had God in my life and home, but the personal relationship took root as I discovered the world outside of White River, South Dakota. The scripture that has always touched my heart is, Psalms 46:1, God is our refuge and strength an ever-present help in trouble. So many times I have called out to God for help… and he is always there!
Xavier Serrano – Facilities Manager
I grew up in a Catholic home as the fourth of nine children in Juarez, Mexico and went to school there. I came to the United States 30 years ago. I’ve been married to Socorro for 39 years and we have three adult children; Alex, Javier and Iran. I enjoy watching baseball and football.
My favorite Bible verse comes from 2 Samuel 22:2-3, “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.”
